About Maureen Obey
Maureen Obey began her journey in art when she was twenty five. Always interested in art, she dabbled in charcoal filling her wall space with unframed portraits. Soon the need to do more brought her to study with watercolorist Nancy Sargent Howell. Married in 1984, Maureen's life was spent raising her three children and working part time, all the while never letting go of the yearning desire to paint. When her children were young the kitchen table became her studio and her children her students. Then in 1998 her interest broadened to oil painting and she began study with Edwina Caci where the deep colors and creamy texture of oils became her new passion. Slowly she began building on her past experience with landscapes and looked for more challenging subjects. She is now broadening her work to still life as well as learning the art of working in plein air. Always seeking to learn more she has studied with Rosemarie Morelli, Jonathan Fairbanks and Dianne Panerelli Miller. She is an Active Member of the Norwood Art Association and shows her work at the Norwood Fine Art Gallery and Studio. In a Juried Art Exhibit she won Second Place for her work of "Stopped in My Tracks" and Honorable Mention for "Two Country Barns". "There is so much to learn and I'm having the time of my life living in my stretch zone."
